OBO Bettermann opens new plant in Russia

Manufacturing, with already more than one hundred employees, includes markets in CIS and Asia

OBO Bettermann, an industry leader in electrical installation technology, will officially inaugurate its new plant on Thursday (29 September) in the Russian Lipetsk special economic zone, located 450 kilometres south of Moscow. Headquartered in Menden, Germany, and with production locations in eight countries, OBO will manufacture cable support systems, lightning protection systems and fastening materials in Russia. The inauguration guests of the family-owned business include the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Dimitriy Kozak, who announced he will be attending.

Manufacturing at the new OBO plant already commenced in February. Currently, it has more than one hundred employees, whose number will soon be doubled to 200. OBO owns a property with manufacturing and administration buildings on an area of around 50,000 square metres. In Russia, in particular, having your own manufacturing facility is expected to achieve success on the local market. From Lipetsk, OBO also serves countries of the post-Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Asia, all the way to China. “The development of the local market, with growing demand for high-quality products and solutions for electric installations in buildings, led to the decision to establish an OBO plant in Russia,” said Ulrich Bettermann. His son Andreas Bettermann added:“The internationalisation of our manufacturing secures the overall success of OBO and thus jobs at all our global locations.”

OBO Bettermann has more than 40 subsidiary companies serving over 60 countries around the world. OBO's product range comprises 30,000 articles for electrical infrastructure, in which systems for connections and fastening, transient and lightning protection, cable support systems, fire protection, cable routing, devices and underfloor installations are used. The company employs over 3,700 employees worldwide and achieves annual turnover of more than 500 million euros. OBO Bettermann owns its own factories in Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, South Africa, India and now also in Russia.

The company has been successfully selling its solutions in Russia for more than 13 years. The Lipetsk special economic zone, in Russia, was created in 2005 and currently includes 47 companies from various sectors from 15 countries.
