Fibre optic cable applications maintaining functionality

With the PYROLINE® Fibre Optics fire protection duct made from glass‐fibre‐ reinforced lightweight concrete, OBO Bettermann offers a new solution for maintaining the functionality of cables and lines – especially for fibre optic cables.

It has become increasingly common to equip communication systems with fibre optic cables in order to process large amounts of data securely. These systems also have to continue to function for a specified amount of time in the event of a fire in order for processes to be brought to a standstill in a regulated manner and to prevent any damage to humans and the environment. PYROLINE® Fibre Optics is particularly suited as a duct for maintaining electrical function and is certified to class E90, following DIN 4102‐12 regulations, for maintaining electrical and data transmission functionality.

The new fire protection duct can be mounted directly onto the wall or ceiling and is also suitable for suspended mounting. It can accommodate a cable load of up to 22.5 kg/m. From the outside, the cables are protected against fire by lightweight concrete fire protection plates which are water and frost‐resistant. They also protect the cables on the inside against moisture and severe cold.

The fire protection plates of the building material classification A1 are rated as non‐combustible. On all inner surfaces of the duct there is also an ablation layer, which provides additional thermal insulation in the event of a fire.

This way the duct reliably protects fibre optic cables in the event of a fire maintaining their transmission qualities.
